Australian NCCHC vs VIC National Police Certificate
If you are in Victoria, you may be wondering how CVCheck’s nationally coordinated criminal history check (NCCHC) differs from a National Police Certificate issue by Victorian Police.
The short answer is that both documents provide details of any disclosable records related to an individual’s criminal history in Australia. Both requests access the National Police Checking Service.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an NCCHC in Victoria?
A nationally coordinated criminal history check in VIC can be ordered through bodies accredited by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC), such as CVCheck. Simply create a free account with us, then order and pay for your check in VIC or anywhere online. It’s that easy!
What is disclosed on a NCCHC in VIC?
A nationally coordinated criminal history check is a national check. You will receive the same results whether you order in VIC or anywhere else in Australia. The NCCHC will list all disclosable court outcomes and any pending charges from police jurisdictions nationwide. Certain convictions, such as spent or juvenile convictions, may not be disclosed on an NCCHC in accordance with the legislation of the various police jurisdictions.
How long does a police check in Victoria last?
A police check in Victoria is a ‘point-in-time’ check and is current as of the date of issue. A police check has no formal period of validity. However, many employers and organisations only accept a police check that has been issued in the past 12 months.
What is the cost of a nationally coordinated criminal history check?
A nationally coordinated criminal history check (NCCHC) costs $64.80 including GST.
How long does a NCCHC take if ordered from Victoria?
CVCheck is connected directly to the National Police Checking Service which is a national system operated by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC).
The ACIC uses automated systems to process checks where possible which means we’re often able to return your result for a NCCHC within 1 business day.
However, approximately 30% of all checks ordered within Australia are referred for manual processing. If this occurs, the result may take from 1 – 15 business days to be returned.
Processing of a NCCHC can take longer if the applicant shares similar details with other individuals recorded in police databases, particularly if they have a common name. It is therefore always recommended that applicants order their police check at least 2 weeks before the certificate is required for employment or other purposes in VIC.
What is the difference between a National Police Certificate in VIC and an NCCHC?
VIC police can provide a National Police Certificate which is a like for like result compared to CVCheck’s nationally coordinated criminal history check.
All Australian checks, whether through the VIC police or an accredited provider such as CVCheck, are processed through the National Police Checking Service.
Other than the issuing organisation’s branding and logo that may appear on the certificate, there is no difference between the results returned on a National Police Certificate in VIC and a CVCheck NCCHC.
