The Federal Government’s National Identity Security Strategy was introduced to preserve and protect a person’s identity. The Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) recently introduced changes to the ID requirements to support this initiative, and these changes affect ACIC accredited organisations, businesses and individuals applying for police checks. Here’s what you need to know.
Why have the ID requirements changed for police checks?
The introduction of The Federal Government’s National Identity Security Strategy has been the catalyst for the changes. The strategy is designed to enhance and improve the security of identity documents, authentication standards, the integrity of data holdings, and procedures for document verification. This keeps your data and identity more secure.
As an accredited ACIC organisation, CVCheck has updated the ID requirements requested by the ACIC on all of our checks, including police checks as of the 1st July 2018. You may have noticed these changes since applying for your police check recently.
What do I have to provide for my ID requirements now?
In the past, a police check has required 100 points of ID (with each piece of ID assigned a value). The ID requirements that have now come into effect require at least 4 documents, plus a biometric link:
- 1 x commencement identity document
- 1 x primary use in the community document
- 2 x secondary use in the community document
- A confirmed biometric link between the applicant and their ID documents must be completed. A “selfie” of your photo ID next to your face would be considered a biometric link.
