An MOJ criminal check, which is commonly known as a Criminal Record and Traffic check, is a document that lists any disclosable criminal and traffic convictions. The Ministry of Justice provides justice services to New Zealanders. The Ministry works to deliver court services from the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court, 58 District Courts, Coroners Court, Employment Court and Maori Land Court. Any disclosable information is documented as MOJ check or more commonly referred to as a Ministry of Justice NZ police check.
What is the process of obtaining an MOJ Criminal Record Check?
CVCheck will facilitate the following process to obtain your Ministry of Justice NZ police check on your behalf and will liaise with Ministry of Justice where required:
- Informed Consent and Identification
The first action is to gain consent from the individual who is being checked for the Ministry of Justice criminal record check. In addition to this we, or one of our corporate clients, will certify the required identification documents.
- Check Submission and processing
A New Zealand Criminal Record Check request will be submitted to the Ministry of Justice with the provided details. Once this has been submitted, a search is conducted against the Ministry of Justice database for any recorded criminal and traffic convictions and sentencing from court appearances recorded under your details. All New Zealand criminal record checks are provided in accordance with the Criminal Records (Clean Slate) Act 2004. If you qualify, you may have the right to keep some information about your prior criminal conviction history private, and not have it within your MOJ criminal check.
- Release of results and verification
The result of an MOJ criminal conviction history check will then be provided to CVCheck and be made available to you immediately. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the results of your MOJ police check, you will need to contact us where we will then liaise with the Ministry of Justice on your behalf.
